Caye Caulker, Belize, Central America
That the generation to come might know...that they may
arise and tell them to their children.—Ps. 78:6
Caye Caulker High School
CCHS
is planning to open in August 2008. Local families are happy that they
will no longer have to pay the high costs of sending their kids away to
high school where they are vulnerable to crime and harmful influences.
CCHS is a nondenominational nonprofit Christian school affiliated with
networks of Belizean churches and ministries which pray and work together
for the benefit of Belize. We have finished the lower story of our first
building and an auxiliary building with storage and restrooms. See Construction
link. We are planning to eventually accommodate hundreds of students to
meet the projected future growth of Caye Caulker.
Teachers Needed
We're
looking for teachers with their own support base who love God, love kids,
love teaching and love to keep learning. We plan to keep our teaching load
light enough for teachers to have a well-rounded life outside of school,
including an important role in our fellowship. Teachers will also have
opportunities for outreach to other age groups. In our first year we will
teach only 9th grade, and add a grade every year until we have all four
grades running.
Apply now so you will have time to get interviewed, accepted, oriented,
certified to teach in Belize and settled into island life and activity
before the school year begins. Contact George Ferrar at info@treeoflifebelize.com
for details and application forms.
Progress
Our vision for this high school has taken a few years to come true, but
that has given us time to prepare for a great first year with facilities
(see Construction link), landscaping,
curriculum, vision statement (see below), teaching requirements, student
leadership training, discipline policy, local advisory board, scholarship
program, budget, annual financial compilation, proper documentation, and
development plans in place. Our vision is to grow as the island keeps
growing, into more more levels of learning, electives and practical
applications to the community, to the nation and to the world. We plan to
see students become teachers and eventually take leadership of our school,
fellowship and ministries–and start more of their own!
CCHS Vision Statement
Caye Caulker High School seeks to develop students’ ability to think,
solve problems, and to use knowledge for everyday living. It seeks to
develop students’ mental, spiritual, emotional and physical potentials,
thus preparing students to serve God, family, their community, their
country, and the world. We will place special value on applying what is
learned toward enhancing the quality of life in the local-family-based
economy of Caye Caulker.
We are grateful to the people of Caye Caulker for their steady
encouragement and patience as we have pursued this high school project. We
regard education as a serious responsibility. We want to provide teachers
who are skilled at appreciating and developing students’ God-given
talents and creativity, and equip them with tools to forge their future.
Our teachers will teach as best they can from a Christian and biblical
point of view. They will also present other options that students will
eventually face, emphasizing that students are responsible for making
their own choices. Teachers will encourage students to make the most of
their school years by engaging their hearts, minds and strengths in
learning, exploring many opportunities, and applying what they learn in a
variety of projects. Some of their homework can involve helping their
family businesses. Teachers will seek to provide an atmosphere of faith,
hope and love in which students can grow and flourish rapidly.
We also want to develop extracurricular youth activities. Youth are
vulnerable to criminal activity and need healthy outlets for their
energies outside of school. We believe such youth activities are part of a
wholesome balance of school, work, rest, devotion, recreation, and family
life.
We want to produce students who know how to fulfill their callings. For
some, the university will be the next step. Others will enter the work
force upon graduation from high school. We want to prepare each student
not only to enter a career, but to get married and to start a family which
has a calling to the community, to the nation and even quite possibly to
the world. This calling should be the responsibility and joy of the entire
family, in which children can serve as apprentices. Before long, many of
our graduating students will start businesses, become leaders and teach
classes. Our aim is that Caye Caulker students will in due time dominate
the faculty of Caye Caulker High School. Beyond that, we want to
eventually offer a tertiary school for further educational opportunities.
We have a long way to go to achieve these goals. Caye Caulker High
School will start small, working with what God has already begun here, and
take one step at a time. We have mustard seed faith that as we lead
students along these steps they will go on to greater and greater things.
We pledge our accountability to the community to fulfill these objectives
as best we can. We want the best for the students of Caye Caulker!
